[UPDATE] Lost Planet 2 unveiled

UPDATE:

Capcom today confirmed that Lost Planet 2 is in development for the Xbox 360. No mention was given to a PlayStation 3 version, so for now we can assume it’s exclusive to Microsoft’s machine. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments as they become available.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Capcom announced today that it is developing a sequel to Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.

The Japanese giant confirmed that the project will be headed by Resident Evil 5 bigwig Jun Takeuchi, who will serve as the game’s producer, alongside director Kenji Oguro.

Oguro revealed that the sequel will take place 10-20 years after the events of the original Lost Planet, with the snow on E.D.N III having long since melted away to reveal a vast jungle. A co-op mode was also hinted at, supported by footage of multiple snow pirates fighting off an Akrid.

Though it has yet to be confirmed that the game will arrive on PlayStation 3, Capcom’s recent commitment to multiplatform titles – in addition to the presence of the firm’s MT Framework engine – suggests that the sequel will be more than likely be putting in an appearance on Sony’s black box.

Expect more details on Lost Planet 2 in the near future.
